David Ward

David has recently joined his family’s company, Holistic Results. David’s initial training was as an agronomist, particularly in large-scale dry land and irrigated cotton production.

Over time, he has become increasingly interested in the more general agronomic skills required for the diverse range of crops grown in areas like the Liverpool and North West Plains of New South Wales, and in South-east Queensland.

On the back of this, David operated his own Agronomy business on the Liverpool Plains where the main emphasis was in crop rotations, soil and plant nutrition. Researching into biological fertility practices saw a move in the consultancy to transition type programs being formulated, from conventional chemical based input systems to more natural biological management plans. This aim was to achieve not only comparable yields to conventional, but lower cost of inputs to the crop production system.

David has provided agronomic expertise to crop insurance claims for one of Australia’s foremost loss adjustment companies based out of Brisbane. Most recently, David spent almost 4 years managing Demand Farming Australia, a research, business development and commercialisation company. He headed up the identification and eventual commercialisation of several niche opportunities for agricultural products, developing a range of premium price contracts negotiated between growers and end-users.

Throughout his working career, David has travelled extensively. He has worked as a cotton agronomist in the Mississippi Valley of the USA, before travelling to the UK, where he was involved with Young Farmer Groups in the Midlands. He has studied agronomic practices throughout Australia and New Zealand, and has negotiated contracts with overseas suppliers of plant genetic material.

David’s passions lie in the production of nutrient dense food produced with integrity, social consciousness and matching the requirements of the customer and consumer.
